This is the first group of runners in the 2010 New York City Marathon - the Elite Women Runners. I watched this with my girlfriend and a couple friends on North 3rd and Bedford in Williamsburg. Marathon runners are amazing! Kat saw a sign that read, “Do your feet hurt from kicking so much ass?” I like that.

This the first episode covering the annual Brooklyn Fishing Derby that spans the distance from Greenpoint and Williamsburg Brooklyn all the way down to Staten Island. The kickoff was held at Dream Fishing in Greenpoint Brooklyn on September 30th. People registered, were briefed on the rules, and got a chance to meet their competition.
I came with the intention of doing a sort of intro video but I got there on the late side and missed my chance. However, as you will see, I did not miss the chance to talk to last year’s winner, John Ruffino, who is hilarious and awesome. Check out the MONSTER 40lb+ striper bass he caught in the East River, and listen to his secrets for catching the big one!
For those who don’t know, the fishing derby is organized by Ben Sargent (aka Dr. Claw - Brooklyn’s very own lobster roll hustler). It’s an awesome event with a great mission:
“The BKUAA is a quickly-growing group of citizens who want to get more out of their city in an environmentally conscious and responsible manner. The BKUAA provides a readily-accessible place for the many scattered but enthusiastic fishermen in Brooklyn and the nearby boroughs to meet and share their experiences fishing the East River and surrounding waterways.”
So, check out this video and stay tuned for more episodes as we hit the East River along Greenpoint and Williamsburg in pursuit of the winning Striper or Blue Fish!
